About The Woven Word
The Woven Word is the official organ of the Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners Guilds, Inc. The Publication Committee consists of the Board of Directors of the Federation. It is published 4 times yearly: November, January, February, and May. Primarily for the benefit of guilds and guild members within Arizona, the newsletter circulation also reaches out of state to both individual subscribers and related organizations.
The Woven Word serves as a means of uniting the guilds within the state. Information may be exchanged between guilds via the newsletter. This may be news of upcoming events such as fashion shows, workshops and programs. Or, one guild may extend an invitation statewide – signifying room for additional students in a particular workshop. Likewise, one guild may solicit help from others to jointly bring in a speaker from out of state.
The Board of Directors of the Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners Guilds, Inc. meets three times a year. The Woven Word also serves as a means of getting information about Federation business to the guilds and guild members. One free copy of each issue is mailed to each respective guild.
Each guild is listed separately, along with a contact name and telephone number, for the use of fellow members who may wish to visit. The Federation encourages visitation between members of the various guilds and all guilds welcome visitors.
The Woven Word also tries to keep members abreast of fiber arts related events around the state by providing a listing and contact information.
Whenever space permits, a fiber sample and/or pattern are included. These fiber samples are provided by the various guilds who take turns from time to time. The fiber sample may be handspun, handwoven, or dyed. A companion article may be submitted with the sample.
The Woven Word offers space for members to advertise items Wanted and For Sale. There is no charge for member advertisements. Commercial advertising is accepted at progressive rates.
Subscriptions to the Woven Word have traditionally served as a small fundraiser, with any profits kept in the General Fund but targeted toward education. At $10 for 4 issues/year, the Woven Word is the last word in the links between guilds in Arizona. To correspond with the Woven Word, write to:
