Double Weave - More Than Two Layers

Learn the typical double weave of connecting two layers at one edge to form a cloth that is twice as wide as the warp. Also connect the two layers at both selvedges to form a tubular cloth – or make layers that can be stuffed, or put a lace pattern on one layer and pick up threads from the bottom layer for a double weave pick-up. Learn to draw patterns on graph paper and weave in double weave pick-up. [not round robin]

Supply List:- Pre-warped 4-harness loom - instructions on how to warp will be mailed
- 2 battens – 13-14" long, 1 inch wide (or take a yardstick, cut in half at angle, sandpaper all edges)
- 2 wire pieces (the bottom edge of a heavy wire coat hanger cut free from top section; smooth ends (so will not snag the warp)
- Straight pins
- Hand or pocket mirror
- 2 shuttles and 2 bobbins
- Good light (ex: an Ott lamp)
- Metal board and magnetic strips (commonly used for embroidery) or a clipboard or sturdy cardboard, clips to hold pattern, a ruler or cardboard strip and 2 clips (to keep your place in the pattern)
Instructor Bio:
Betty learned to weave in Washington State in the 1950s. She has given weaving workshops and seminars in the Midwest and western states, Canada and taught weaving classes at Yavapai College. She was the first Arizona weaver to receive the HGA Certificate of Excellence – Masters in Handweaving. She published the book: Checkerboard Patterns – Loom Controlled. Betty was on the planning committees and the board of the Verde Valley Weavers and Spinners Guild, Arizona Federation of Weavers and Spinners Guilds and Intermountain Weavers Conference.
